Tutoring in Canberra for Years 1 to 12

5-STARS TUTORING YOU CAN COUNT ON

Tutoring Services in Canberra

If you've moved to Canberra from another state, the senior secondary system can take some getting used to students here move to a "college" for Years 11 and 12, a different setup from the high-school-through-to-graduation model most other states use. It confuses a lot of newly arrived families, and it's one of the more common questions we hear from Canberra parents in that first year.

RF Tutoring works with Canberra students at every stage, from primary foundations through to college-level senior study, matching each student with a tutor based on their subject, year level and learning style. Sessions are available in-home or online, built around your family's actual week rather than a fixed template.

Understanding School in the ACT

ACT schools operate under the Board of Senior Secondary Studies, or BSSS, which oversees senior secondary study and certification across Years 11 and 12. Rather than staying at the same high school right through to Year 12, most ACT students move into a college for these final two years, a structural difference from states where secondary school runs straight through. Students work towards the ACT Senior Secondary Certificate, based on continuous assessment moderated by BSSS across a range of college-based subjects, rather than a single external end-of-year exam block. An ATAR can be calculated from these results for students pursuing university entry, but it's a separate calculation from the certificate itself.

Before college, ACT students follow the Australian Curriculum through primary and secondary schooling, with NAPLAN providing a national check-in at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

Tutoring support tends to matter most around the transition into college where assessment structure and expectations shift noticeably from Year 10 as well as for younger students building core reading and maths skills, and for college students managing a sustained, continuous assessment load across several subjects at once.

Why Canberra Families Choose RF Tutoring

Canberra's college system means senior assessment is spread across the year rather than concentrated into one exam block, which makes consistent, well-matched tutoring particularly useful; there's less room for a single bad exam to derail things, but more need for consistent support across ongoing tasks. RF Tutoring's tutors are handpicked and matched deliberately to fit your child's subject and learning style, with no lock-in contract if college commitments shift. The first-session happiness guarantee means there's a real safety net if the initial match isn't quite right, and ongoing communication keeps you informed rather than being left unsure on how things are tracking.

Through our in-home tutoring and online tutoring, your child receives focused, personalised support that's hard to achieve in a busy classroom. Our tutors make lessons fun and engaging, so children enjoy learning (even math!).

ATAR

The ATAR system can be complex to navigate and that's exactly why we're here to help.

Our ATAR tutors, along with our expert in-home and online tutoring services across major Australian states, support Year 11–12 students as they navigate ATAR, unlock their potential, and gain a real competitive edge.

How RF Tutoring Works

We start by understanding your child's year level, the subject or subjects in question, and what's prompting the search for support; whether that's the shift into college assessment, a specific subject gap, or general primary school support. We factor in personality and learning style alongside academic need when matching a tutor. The first session focuses on the tutor getting to know your child and building rapport, and lessons from there are shaped around actual coursework, assignments or college assessment tasks. We provide ongoing updates on progress, and the schedule can adjust as college assessment periods shift through the year.
