Tutoring Services in Melbourne

Between school, sport, music lessons and everything else a Melbourne family is juggling, fitting in tutoring can feel like one commitment too many. For many parents, the real question isn’t whether their child needs support, but how to make tutoring work without adding another source of pressure to an already busy week.

RF Tutoring builds sessions around your family's schedule rather than asking you to fit into our schedule. A tutor matched to your child's subject, year level and learning style comes to you or meets you online, at a time that fits between training and homework rather than competing with it. Whether it's a Year 4 student needing reading support, a Year 9 student with gaps in maths, or a Year 12 student deep into VCE revision, sessions are tailored to what your child is currently learning and working on at school.

Understanding School in Victoria

Victorian schools follow the Victorian Curriculum F–10, set by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), which guides learning from the foundation year through to Year 10. From Year 11, most Victorian students work towards the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), the state’s senior secondary qualification completed across Years 11 and 12. Students choose a combination of compulsory and elective studies, with assessment through school-based coursework and, for many subjects, external exams. VCE results contribute to an ATAR, which is calculated by VTAC and used by universities for course selection.

NAPLAN sits earlier in the journey, giving a national snapshot of literacy and numeracy at Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. NAPLAN is a useful early signal, not a verdict on how a student is doing overall.

Tutoring can be particularly valuable for Melbourne families at a few key stages: when primary school students need more one-to-one support than a classroom can provide, when high schoolers face the increased independence expected from around Year 8, when Year 10 students are choosing VCE subjects and want to understand their options, and throughout Years 11 and 12 as the demands of VCE assessment increase.

Tutoring Services Across Melbourne

Primary tutoring

For younger Melbourne students, sessions focus on reading, basic maths and core skills which can help build confidence early and address gaps before they become harder to overcome in high school.

High school tutoring

A Year 8 student with gaps in algebra, or a Year 10 student trying to keep pace with an increasingly demanding timetable, benefits from the kind of individual attention a classroom of 25 or 30 students can't always provide.

Maths tutoring

From foundational maths through to VCE Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics, tutors tailor sessions to the concepts and methods being taught at the student’s school.

English tutoring

Text analysis, essay writing and exam techniques are common focuses in tutoring, particularly as VCE English assessment approaches.

Science and other subjects

Beyond Maths and English, support is also available across science, humanities and senior VCE subjects, tailored to what your child is actually studying at school.

NAPLAN tutoring

Targeted preparation for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, helping students become familiar with the format, build confidence and strengthen the skills they need.

VCE and senior-secondary support

Subject-specific tutoring for Year 11 and 12 students, along with broader support around study planning as the VCE workload ramps up across multiple subjects.

Assignment and exam preparation

Sessions can be structured around a specific SAC, assignment deadline or exam block rather than following a generic weekly template.

Catch-up and intensive tutoring

For a student who's missed school, moved between year levels, or simply fallen behind in one subject, more frequent sessions can provide the consistent support they need to catch up and rebuild their confidence without feeling overwhelmed.

Online and in-home tutoring

Online tutoring is available to Melbourne students anywhere across the city and the wider state; in-home tutoring depends on tutor availability in your specific area.

After-school and weekend flexibility

Given how packed Melbourne family calendars tend to be, sessions are scheduled to work around training, extracurriculars and everything else on the list.

If a first session doesn't feel like the right match, RF's happiness guarantee covers it. And because both in-home and online sessions are available, families aren't forced into one format when their week genuinely calls for both.

How RF Tutoring Works

It starts with a conversation about your child’s year level, subjects, challenges and goals. We then consider their personality and learning style when matching them with a tutor, because the right fit can make a real difference.

The first session focuses on understanding where your child is at, identifying areas to work on and building rapport. From there, sessions are tailored to their schoolwork, assignments, assessments or VCE preparation. We keep you updated on progress and adjust the approach as your child’s needs change.

How It Works

Finding a tutor can be difficult so we've saved you the hassle of scrolling through hundreds of tutor profiles.

Every Session You Complete
Contributes To Eradicating Illiteracy In Women

The right to education is a fundamental human right. We believe it is our responsibility to help make a change.

Together, the RF Tutoring community and the Egyptian Orphan Fund are helping eradicate illiteracy in women. Each tutoring session you complete contributes to the Education Program.

The Education program provides adult numeracy and literacy classes to help women in the most impoverished communities get a chance to change their lives for the better. Not only does each lesson you complete help educate sponsored orphans but you are also helping to educate single mothers to increase their chances of finding a job.

Thank you for helping change someone's life.

Students with Nelson Mandela quote: Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world

Yes. Senior tutors work with students on specific VCE subjects, exam techniques and study planning, aligned with what's being assessed in school.
Can primary school students get tutoring through RF?▾
Yes, tutoring is available from Year 1 through to Year 12, including foundational support for younger primary students.
How does RF Tutoring match students with a tutor?▾
We consider your child's subject needs, year level, personality and learning style, then match them with a tutor suited to their needs, not just whoever is next available.
Is NAPLAN tutoring available for Melbourne students?▾
Yes, RF Tutoring offers NAPLAN tutoring for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, focused on building familiarity with the assessment and strengthening core literacy and numeracy skills.
What if my child has fallen behind in just one subject?▾
